Frequently Asked Questions - Content Owners

Does Backchannelmedia's service work in VOD and DVR environments?

Yes. Since Backchannelmedia works with content owners to embed interactivity directly into their content, the service works with any hardware in which the Backchannelmedia software has been installed.

What options will our creative/production personnel have for the icon that appears on the TV screen?

We currently have a predefined library of icons that are available to supplement your existing content. Content owners specify when the icon will appear, how long it will remain on the screen and where on the screen it will be positioned. Additionally, we are working on a case by case basis with content owners as well as with third-party editing softwares to provide a more comprehensive suite of creative tools. For those that prefer for their content to be encoded with minimal impact on existing workflow, Backchannelmedia's Network Operations Center can encode content remotely and insert icons on-the-fly.

What types of reporting will be available?

Since Backchannelmedia drives traffic from the TV platform to the Internet, you will have all the metrics you receive from your existing TV and Internet campaigns -- and more. Reports on the success of your TV campaigns as measured by TV click-through and consumer portal click-through metrics are made available to the advertisers, syndicators and broadcasters who own the individual campaigns.

Will viewers not equipped with Backchannelmedia-enabled equipment in the home see the icons in content after it is encoded?

No. The on-screen icon is rendered by Backchannelmedia's set-top box software so viewers who have not had the software downloaded into their boxes will experience no change in their viewing experience.

How do broadcasters work with Backchannelmedia?

We have a number of exciting opportunities for local broadcasters, station ownership groups, syndicators and national networks to encode content today and begin monetizing the link between their content and the web. To learn more, please visit our Market Trial section.

Will Backchannelmedia software add unwanted overlays and interfere with the viewing experience that I’ve produced?

No. The content owner/producer is responsible for placing Backchannelmedia Token IDs into their content at certain times, so any icon display or other graphic overlay that is shown on a Backchannelmedia-enabled TV will only appear with the permission of the content owner. This preserves the viewer’s experience and provides the content owner with peace of mind, knowing that Backchannelmedia preserves the integrity and copyright of their content throughout any and all distribution channels.
